One of the most prestigious Australia's art awards has been won by an Indigenous artist for the first time in 99 years. Vincent Namatjira, 37 years old, won the Archibald Prize for a painting in which he appears alongside Adam Goodes, an Australian football player.
Mr Goodes retired from sports five years ago due to repeated racial abuse.
Namatjira’s work is held in significant institutional collections including the British Museum, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Art Gallery of Western Australia and Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art.
